This sweet made with chocolate and almonds seems to have been born by mistake. The merit of the Capri cake goes to the chef Carmine Di Fiore who in 1920 created this cake by chance in his artisan workshop on the island of Capri.
While preparing an almond cake for three American gangsters who arrived on the island to buy a quantity of spats for Al Capone, he forgot to add the flour to the dough, he forgot one of the main ingredients for a cake.
In reality, however, the result turned out to be excellent, a real treat so much so that even the Americans wanted the recipe and the Capri cake became one of the most famous and enjoyed in Italy, and not only.
