{"id":7276,"date":"2017-08-04T18:29:40","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T16:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grancaffegambrinus.com\/differences-between-barley-water-almond-milk-and-almond-paste\/"},"modified":"2022-07-04T15:01:40","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T13:01:40","slug":"differences-between-barley-water-almond-milk-and-almond-paste","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grancaffegambrinus.com\/en\/differences-between-barley-water-almond-milk-and-almond-paste\/","title":{"rendered":"Differences between barley water, almond milk and almond paste"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This summer 2017 is proving to be particularly hot for most of Italy and for us Neapolitans.<br \/>\nSo, what better remedy than a <strong>refreshing drink<\/strong> that, at the same time, <strong>contains sugars, vitamins and minerals<\/strong> to keep us up?<\/p>\n<p>Last week we immersed in <strong>centrifuged<\/strong> and<strong> smoothies<\/strong> based on vegetables and fresh fruit.<\/p>\n<p>Today, however, we will lose ourselves in other types of goodies:<strong> barley water and almond milk.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the way, what&#8217;s the difference?<\/p>\n<h2>Almond and luffy milk: two very different white soft drinks<\/h2>\n<p>In fact, there is a lot of confusion about these two drinks and, often, it&#8217;s just some manufacturers that put wrong information into circulation. We try to understand each other more.<\/p>\n<p>Almond milk was born in the sunny Sicilian lands, where it was a drink used for Lent; from there it began to spread throughout the South, between Puglia, Calabria, Basilicata and, of course, our Campania, enjoying a general success.<\/p>\n<p>But how do you get this exquisiteness all vitamins?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Almonds<\/strong> are minced and mixed together with <strong>sugar<\/strong> and then <strong>squeezed into water<\/strong>, also generating a<strong> cold infusion<\/strong>. That&#8217;s where that intense flavor comes from!<\/p>\n<p>The barley water, instead, is the most delicate &#8220;cousin&#8221; of this goodness.<br \/>\nHere the almonds are only<strong> flavored<\/strong>, in theory (even if the confusion has generated, then, over time, even recipes with real almonds), since, originally, the main ingredient was represented by barley.<\/p>\n<p>Over time this cereal would have been replaced by<strong> other vegetable ingredients<\/strong>, leaving unchanged the name that ended up simply indicating non-alcoholic obtained with this type of process.<\/p>\n<p>In any case it is fresh, nutritious drinks and particularly suitable for sultry periods like this, not to mention that they are also excellent for those who follow a<strong> vegan diet<\/strong> or are<strong> lactose intolerant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, both these delicacies are perfect for making excellent smoothies, milkshakes and ice creams!<\/p>\n<h2>Almond paste<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The almond paste<\/strong>, however, is still another one obtained from these precious seeds.<\/p>\n<p>It is a<strong> confectionery<\/strong> (also called <strong>Pasta Reale<\/strong>) which is the basis of many<strong> typical Sicilian sweets<\/strong>, which we also appreciate in Naples.<\/p>\n<p>It is, in this regard, an agri-food product officially<strong> recognized as traditional Sicilian<\/strong> and included in the list of traditional I<strong>talian agri-food products of the Ministry of agricultural food and forestry policies<\/strong>.
